NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream in Amsterdam

Hello my lovelies, every time that I go lipstick surfing red color is always my go to. I agree with all the girls who say a tint of red color can do wonders for us. I would judge a lipstick by its red color and then decide it is worth buying or no. Recently I stumbled upon this NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream online and I have always fallen for the reds by NYX. So I picked up NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream in Amsterdam after seeing the swatches.

NYX used to be my favorite since my high school much before online businesses came into existence. I got one from a big shop in Mumbai and I lost it on the day of bae’s birthday. I was so full of myself that day that I didn’t realize dropping my wallet and also my favorite red lipcolor.

Product Claims – Neither lipstick nor lip gloss, this Matte lip cream is a new kind of lip color that goes on silky smooth and sets to a Matte finish. Soft Matte Lip Cream is surprisingly durable and, unlike some Matte lipstick formulas, also moisturizing.

Price – 8ml for INR 600

Lip creams are a revolution in the lipcolor segment; I have loved them for their ease of use and rich color. Lip creams come in a packaging like a gloss and dry up like a matte lipstick. The best thing is it does not chap your lips like a normal matte lipstick would do. You might want to use a lip balm as a base if you have superdry and chapped lips like I do.

You can use two lip cream shades and create the perfect ombre lips that are the in thing of the day. Create a base with a lip balm and use a dark shade lip cream for the first color. Add the other lighter shade to create an ombre impression and finish with a transparent gloss.

The color is the prettiest red, it has that English touch to it. It still is quite bright but giving me a desired look every time. It suits very well for my traditional as well as my western outfits. I love to pair it with my black dresses.

  • Travel friendly packaging

  • Non transfer, longlasting formula

Cons of NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream

5 Reasons Never to Sleep in your Makeup

We all have had days when we hate to remove our make-up and trust me on most days we hate to got through the whole process of removing face makeup. Recently I noticed my skin was not as smooth as it used to be courtesy parties. Though I should not blame it; because the real reason was just wiping my face with a tissue and sleeping with at least the base layer.

Most dermatologists stress on Makeup removal as something more important than putting good makeup and it should be a part of your makeup regime. It is as important as brushing your teeth at night otherwise your mouth bacteria will start acting up.

After figuring out a lot of things, I found out these top 5 reasons never to sleep in your Makeup –

  1. Clogging Pores

We all know what makeup does to us, it covers up all our pores giving us the perfect flawless look. We have become so used to the age old foundation and what not on top of it we have our face primers, highlighters, pressed powders, contouring colors. Your skin may belong to any category but clogging your pores is never a good idea if you want to make your skin shine. It starts with small break outs and coverts to pimples and blemishes very soon.

  1. No No to Foundation

Most doctors say that the base is the worst product to leave on to your face and it should be removed daily for regular application. When makeup like this is not properly removed it results in the breakdown of collagen, wrinkles, clogged pores, and acne flare-ups. And you might be still blaming it on your junk diet.

  1. Eye Makeup

With the amount of love we create our dramatic eyes it is equally important to spend and equivalent amount of time removing every layer of the smokey eyes or the cat eyed liner. Eye make up can do more harm than most other products, it can easily result in red eyes, eye infections, irritation and heating of eyes. Mascara is supposed to damage your eyelids too when not removed properly and never sleep with artificial lashes the gum can spoil your tender skin.

  1. Lipstick sticking to the lips

Your left over lipstick will increase the chapping of your lips many fold. Many lipsticks contain drying waxes which help the lipstick to last longer on to lips. Ideally you need to remove your lipstick and put a nice lip balm on your lips after removing the lipstick to keep your lips baby soft.

  1. The Best part

So after all this you must be wondering what really is required that you remove your make-up. You have various options to choose from – make up removing wipes and makeup removers. Make sure you pick up something that is oil based so that your make up comes off very easily. You just need to take a cotton ball and cleanse your face and eyes. Sometimes eye makeup gets more rigid and takes more time. After cleaning just apply little night cream on your face and non- tinted lip balm for best results.

Today we see all makeup enthusiasts banking on this product so I got one which is Revlon PhotoReady Skinlights Face Illuminator in Bare Light and I will review it for you guys today.

Not all brands give you many options to choose from when it comes to highlighters but Revlon has come up with Revlon PhotoReady Skinlights Face Illuminator which is available in 3 shades – Peach lights, Bare lights and Pink lights.

Shades available: Peach, Bare and Pink lights

Product claims: Banish dullness and even out skin with light capturing crystals and photochromatic pigments for a lit-from-within look. Mix with or wear over foundation to banish dullness and even out skin tone.

My experience with Revlon PhotoReady Skinlights Face Illuminator

Packaging – it comes in a slim tube and the color corresponds to the shade you have picked. It has a nozzle button over it so that you can squeeze out the required amount. The package is quite travel-friendly and usable. Only thing since it is too liquid it tends to fall off just by tilting it and you may not need to push the nozzle or else it will lead to wastage.

Usage – you will need a very small quantity of the product and you can use it highlight your cheeks, cupids bow, eye brows and nose in my case. You may use a beauty blender if you are fond of it but I usually stick to my fingers because it works great for me. I can use the right strength and color to blend according to the look I want. The texture is like lotion, with very subtle glitters present and this gives the very natural highlighting finish on the skin. It is good for all skin types. Even the oily skin ones can carry this formula easily as it is light weight and non-greasy. Your skin shows a natural healthy glow with this product and it can be your go to when you are looking for instant pep up to your tired skin. I have used it with a foundation combination. This product comes off very easily with a makeup remover.

Pros –

Easily blended

Natural highlighting

Very less quantity is used.

Cons

The nozzle of the package

Can be very subtle

How to cure Shoe Bites

Shoes Shoes Shoes!!! we love them much more than we hate them. I keep wondering who was the person who designed a woman’s shoe which is so uncomfortable yet so stylish.  Our feet are never shaped pointed in the front and rounded at the back. Like all of you, even I stand for the quest to find the right shoe every time I go shopping but since I have flat feet buying heels for me is a task at another level. I may buy shoes which look pretty and which are fairly comfortable but then come the ‘shoe bites’ – very innocent piece of my skin which has become a water-bubble and now the problem starts. The blister will remain for a few days and the mark will take months to go. So here is what you can do to cure shoe bites and shoe marks altogether.

How to cure shoe bites

How to cure Shoe Bites –

  1. Butter – Butter has natural healing properties and a shoe bite is usually created by the friction between the shoe and our skin. If you are able to layer your skin and avoid direct contact, your problem is solved. It is advised to massage butter on the prone areas and wash it with luke warm water before wearing a shoe.
  2. Potato juice – as much as it sounds surprising but potato is an age old technique to stay away from shoe bites. You just need to rub the potato slice on your skin. It is also said that potato helps in removing corns as well.
  3. Olive oil and honey – You should mix equal portions of olive oil and honey and create a solution. Use a cotton swab to rub it over the affected area. It will not only help treat your shoe bites but it will also help you to remove your old scars and marks.
  4. White tape – medical tape has worked the best for me. I usually keep my small toe covered with white medical tape before wearing my heels. It makes sure that I don’t get any shoe bites so there is no problem of marks.

These are a few things you can do to stay away from shoe bites but as long as we love stilettos we just can’t avoid shoe bites completely.

The bottle is shaped like an hour glass so it becomes not so travel friendly. The bottle gets heavier on the lower part and you can’t keep it tilted or something. The shampoo is white in colour. The shampoo has a thick creamy texture. You need to dilute the shampoo to spread it easily on water. The shampoo is really creamy and it almost melts in you hands. It is like applying hair cream to clean your hair.

5 ways to get rid of Dark Circles and Puffy eyes

Dark Circles and Puffy eyes have become our friends since the time we went into the party scene. Most Saturday mornings at work I over use kohl to hide my puffy eyes. You may have dark circles due to hereditary reasons or your lifestyle. Some times our sleep patterns are bad due to various reasons or we might be suffering because of working late in the nights. I have a few things you could do to reduce your dark circles make you look fresh every morning.

  1. Cucumber Slices – Putting cucumber eyes to soothe your eyes is an age old technique practiced even before under – eye creams were conceived of. You can use freshly cut cucumbers and keep it on your eyes for some time. It is advisable that you sleep after putting them for best results.
  2. Potato slices – Most of us would not know but potato slices can show great results in reducing the puffiness from the eyes. Potato also has a light cooling effect which will make your eyes relaxed after a hard day at work.
  3. Tea bags – Tea bags can be used after they are put in the freezer for a few minutes for best results. You should pick up two tea bags and freeze them for about half an hour. Put them on your eyes and let it do its wonders. It is advisable to use green tea bags. Drinking green tea and putting the tea bags on your eyes will have complete health benefits.
  4. Under Eye Cream – Having an eye care regime is as important as having a skin care regime and you should not abstain yourself from picking a good under eye cream and using it regularly. After all your beauty lies in your eyes.
  5. Almond Oil – Almond oil obviously won’t be able to make you as happy as the under eye cream or green tea bags but it will show good results on regular usage. You just need to take a drop on your fingers and gently massage the eye area. Wash your eyes if irritation persists for long.

5 ways to do up an old sari

We all have our mother’s or grand- mother’s beautiful saree collection that none of them wears. Moreover that stuff is so intricate and expensive that they would not want to give away easily. When I got down to open my grand-mom’s wardrobe shortly after she passed away I can’t start to tell you what amazing clothes I saw. She had saved her wedding saree and a lot of other sarees in designs I would not know of. With a few I loved the colors, with a few others I loved their borders and a few were made of such material which had not spoiled in so many years. I had the privilege of getting her wedding saree and all of you know what will be my next pick for a friend’s wedding.

  • Dye

Some clothes get dirty with time or some times a light color would not look as vibrant as it did earlier. The best thing is to go your dyer and dye it in a darker shade. It is advisable to keep the color family same for best results or else you could go with black. One can never go wrong with a sexy black saree.

  • Blouse

Even if you pick up your an old saree I still insist on getting a new blouse. Even if you fit in it might not look as stunning. Opt in for a contrasting print with a plain saree and get it designed with the best back neck and add a latkan with a deep back to add oomph.

  • Silver / Golden

If you are absolutely not sure of the print combination you can go for the evergreen silver or gold depending on the color of work your sari has. Or you may just get a smart golden and silver blouse to avoid any confusion when you are borrowing sarees from anyone.

  • Border

A border can be your savior when you are trying to renew an old sari go to market and pick up a printed border. Since floral and tie & dye is quite in you can go for the same border blouse combination to complete the look. It can help you add bling to a plain saree.

  • Stitch

A stitch in time can save nine, literally when you fee you need to add glam to the old sari go for a different stitch. You could get the palla and get it attached to an entirely different fabric to create a new look. Half patterns are still available in the market and stitching also means no draping :)

When I picked up my grand-mom’s saree I went ahead and got a sexy golden blouse and brought life to the purple golden sari.

Why do you need a skin toner

Skin being the mirror of our body needs to be taken special care of. Skin care should be on the top of your list when you have such sweaty summers in India. Most part of the country is going through tough summers leading to the drying and tanning of the skin. So today I will talk about why do you need a skin toner.

I keep looking for different products to include in my daily regime that can benefit me. Most people would think you can do without a skin toner and you are right through most part of the year but not for summers for me. I have a combination skin and it becomes oily during the hotter months of the year. Ladies who have oily skin will have to take more trouble and be a regular to get a cleaner looking skin. Trust me it may not show in the beginning but once you make it a habit it definitely shows the effort on your face.

I may support the use of skin toners but it is not necessary that you have to go through the effort of buying something very expensive you can make skin toners at home or get your best buys with the one that makes your skin happy and pampered.

Why should you use a Skin Toner –

  • Provides Hydration – Your skin gets devoid of the necessary minerals and gets covered with dirt and sweat very easily. A skin toner helps you to removes all those extra particles from your skin and provide the required water content. It makes your skin glow.
  • Detoxify your skin -Your daily makeup contains a few chemicals which can be absorbed easily while you sleep so using a toner will cleanse the system and leave your skin clean for a good night’s sleep. You will have a clearer and more beautiful skin after using the toner.
  • Acne Cure – Most of you who have acne problems should swear by a skin toner that is mild enough that you can use every day. The astringent content in skin toners helps your to breathe thereby reducing the sebum and ace outbreaks.
  • Shrink and remove pores – Most of us have small opened pores on the skin which provide space for dirt and chemicals to settle and cause toxins to enter the skin. Regular usage of a skin toner will lead to the shrinkage of pores.

Do wait for my next post where I will talk about my favorite toner. Till then let us know which toner is your favorite.

Garnier Ultra Blends Revitalizing Shampoo Review

Garnier has come up with a new range of shampoos and conditioners to keep all the hair woes at bay. Although my previous experiences with Garnier have not been very great and I have not used their products after Fructis came into being. This time I was a little positive about Garnier Ultra Blends Shampoo range so I ended up doing a Garnier Ultra Blends Revitalizing Shampoo Review for you guys.

Since I have an oily scalp I chose Garnier Ultra Blends Revitalizing Shampoo so that it will help my hair get back the bounce. My hair has thin strands and because of the high sebum content it tends to look flat and dull easily. I religiously follow the regime of washing my hair at least 4 times in a week. I used this Garnier Ultra Blends Revitalizing Shampoo after a few hours of oiling and it takes about two washes to completely remove the oil. Using it on a normal day without oiling shows best results. It might be not be a great choice for people with completely dry hair because it considerably lessens the sebum content in the scalp.

Overall I really like this shampoo as a daily shampoo. It cleans well and gives smooth soft hair. It never makes hair dry; also I haven’t noticed any extra hair fall. I like the Packaging  it is an apt size and you can easily keep it while travelling. My hair feels fresh as it has all the natural cleansers – lemon, henna, green tea, aloe and eucalyptus.. It also has a lemon fragrance that lingers on for a while. It leaves my hair super soft and shiny.

Price – Rs. 120 for 175ml

Pros –

  • affordable
  • easy to use
  • cleans well
  • contains natural products
  • paraben free
  • smells fresh
  • great for daily use

Cons –

  • You might not want to try something new
  • cannot compete with high end brands
